Moms of Color, originally founded in New Orleans, LA by the visionary Lakischa Smith, is thrilled to announce the launch of its newest chapter in Meridian, Mississippi. With a deep commitment to empowering and supporting mothers and children, Lakischa Smith aims to bring the community together through initiatives focused on healing, education, and unity. The Meridian chapter will host a variety of events and programs designed to uplift, inspire and to help ensure every mother and child has the support they need to thrive.
Lakisha Smith envisions Moms of Color Meridian will offer a safe space for mothers to share their stories, connect with one another, and find the support they need. We are calling on volunteers and sponsors to join us in this mission to make a lasting impact in the Meridian community. Your support can help us create a brighter future for families in need.

Moms of Color is thrilled to announce the launch of our Meridian chapter, bringing a series of enriching initiatives to the community! We are kicking off with a donation drive to support local mothers and children, ensuring they have access to essential resources. Apply below to register, you must receive an invite to this event.
We are also excited to introduce the Afro Yogi Kids Social Club, an innovative program designed for children aged 6-15. This club offers in-person experiences, focusing on yoga, critical thinking, and engaging activities that boost self-esteem and nurture holistic well-being. Through Afro Yogi Kids, children will explore African spirituality, celebrate their individuality, and develop into confident, mindful leaders.
Additionally, we will soon offer free literacy classes to foster a love for reading and learning among children in Meridian. According to recent statistics, children’s literacy rates in Mississippi are among the lowest in the nation, making these classes a vital resource for the community’s future success.
